Developing your School Travel Plan

There are a number of steps you should follow in order to draft an effective school Travel Plan:

  1. Contact your Local Education Authority and/or Council and ask to speak to the School Travel Plan Adviser
  2. Arrange to meet with you with your local School Travel Plan Adviser to work out how you're going to put together your School Travel Plan
  3. Talk to other Stakeholders about your ideas (e.g. parents, police and the local community)
  4. Involve your pupils in carrying out a Travel Survey - linked to Geography, PSHE or Citizenship work.
  5. Identify a range of options to meet your transport needs. These might include Bus Travel, Cycling, Walking or Car-sharing.
  6. Identify suitable Recommendations to address the needs of your stakeholders
  7. Draw up a Timetable for implementing your School Travel Plan
  8. Write up your Travel Plan, ensuring it contains all the recommended Content of a good Travel Plan
  9. Get Sign Off for your Schol Travel Plan from the appropriate stakeholders
  10. Get going on Delivering your School Travel Plan!
  11. Review progress on a regular basis
