Car-sharing

Where distances are too great for walking or cycling, parents can arrange to car-share to and from school.

Car-sharing is an excellent means of reducing congestion and pollution around the school at peak hours and also assists parents in reducing their travel costs. In addition it provides an opportunity for local parents to meet one another and work together to their mutual advantage.

Car-sharing can either be arranged informally between parents or parents can register their journey on-line at School-Run.org.

Schools need to register with the scheme before parents can use it, but registration is cheap and easy to arrange. The service is then free for parents, and provides them with a safe environment in which to identify other parents living locally
